In 1998, seven years before the Royal Decree 208/2005, FCC ámbito opened Spain’s first refrigerator treatment plant, and three years later this was followed by the first treatment plant for batteries and fluorescent tubes, both located in Pont de Vilomara (Barcelona). In 2002 the first treatment facility for other types of WEEE (e.g., televisions and computer hardware) opened, also in Catalonia, while in 2004 the company RECILEC was set up in Aznalcollar (Seville), as the first integrated management centre for this type of waste in the southern half of Spain. We have facilities for the treatment of white, brown and grey electrical and electronic goods, fluorescent tubes and lights, miscellaneous equipment and batteries and accumulators.

Thanks to these facilities, FCC ámbito manages either directly or through its subsidiaries more than 40,000 tonnes of WEEE each year, recovering and returning the resources that it contains into production processes.
