FCC Construcción has won the Agustín de Betancourt Prize for the best international project: Doha Metro. The third edition of this award recognises the work carried out by civil engineers and Spanish engineering and cons- truction companies in the interna- tional market, which is an emblem for Global Spain and a model of competition and modernity throu- ghout the world. The project has been promoted by Qatar Railways Company, an orga- nisation dependent on the Ministry of Transport; designed by TYPSA, Sener & Ehaf; and built by FCC Construcción, Archirodon Cons- truction Company, Yuksel Insaat, Petroserv LTD in a Joint Venture. The work carried out by FCC was the South Elevated & At Grade Line Network, with 6.9 kilome- tres of elevated section and three stations. Among the reasons for the agreement are the high eco- nomic, social and sustainability impact (sustainable mobility) and compliance with the ODS invol- ved in the design, construction and operation of the metropolitan areas, particularly the Doha Me- tro in Qatar. The award was collected by Pa- blo Colio, CEO of FCC, who thanked the Colegio de Ingenie- ros de Caminos, Canales y Puer- tos for its invitation and stated that “I collect the award on behalf of all FCC Construcción emplo- yees. With work like this, Spani- sh companies are positioning our engineering at a high level. This has been shown in previous edi- tions and this is how the work of our companies and their profes- sionals can be seen”. Later, he pointed out that “this project is the backbone of the country, not only for Doha but also for the World Cup, as some of its facilities will be used to ac- cess the sports complexes, ac- companied by an iconic design that is representative of the coun- try’s culture”. The award ceremony, whose Ho- norary Committee is chaired by S. M. Felipe VI, was held on June 24 within the V Global Forum on Engineering and Public Works, which took place at the Palacio de la Magdalena, Santander. Present at the forum were the Minister of Public Works, the Di- rector General of Internationali- sation of the ICEX Company, and the President of the ICCP Colle- ge, as well as other outstanding personalities from the public and private sectors. The forum has become a national and international point of referen- ce and, at the same time, a mee- ting point for professionals, mana- gers and government officials, in which leading figures from engi- neering and construction, as well as managers and experts from those strategic sectors in which civil engineers are called upon to play a leading role of great re- levance for change and, conse- quently, for the modernisation of our environment.
