Our technical services participated actively in the design phase as well as in the technical assistance du- ring construction. Special mention should be made of the machinery department, whose help was key to the design and operation of our facilities and equipment. On the other hand, our section has been the leader in execution with respect to the rest of the lines, being used by the client to imple- ment numerous changes that were subsequently implemented in the rest of the lines after verifying their suitability. This is where FCC has demonstrated a high degree of fle- xibility and capacity for interaction with the customer, thanks to which, our section was the first one to be executed. What social and economic bene- fits will the Doha project bring? The Qatari authorities were not sure if people would actually be using the metro. After the partial opening of the first lines, however, a considerable influx of people has been observed. If this is extrapolated at the end of the first phase of the metro (by year-end 2019), it can be said that it will be a fundamental part of the mobility of people in Doha, allevia- ting the major traffic problems that the city suffers. Thanks to the metro the city will be much better vertebrated, and new urban areas can be developed, allowing distances to be reduced as well as transport time. What will be the next projects in Qatar in which FCC intends to participate? FCC has some projects pending award, such as the extension of the Green Line and the Red Line North. On the other hand, there is a growing interest in the adminis- tration of bidding PPP projects, which could fit perfectly into the philosophy of the company. In this respect, we are currently bidding with Aqualia for the first PPP Water Treatment Plant. In the short term we will also be paying attention to isolated inter- national projects such as Sharq Crossing or the expansion of the Port of Doha.
