The Spanish Society of Cardiology and the Spanish Heart Foundation have organized, in Madrid, the IX Carrera Popular del Corazón (Po- pular Heart Race). More than 4,000 people took part in the event, with the aim of promoting physical exer- cise to achieve better cardiovascu- lar health. FCC acquired 100 numbers so that FCC employees could participate in this popular race that transmits values of solidarity, companionship and sport to organisations. Once again this year, the participation of FCC employees has been a suc- cess, and they have not missed this important sporting event. The aim of this race is to promo- te the practice of physical activity to raise awareness and explain that 10 minutes “is the maximum time that a person’s heart can be at a stop without suffering irreversible damage” so “it is important to know how to react”. The Spanish Heart Foundation (FEC) and the Philips Foundation took advantage of the day to pre- sent the song ‘Move your heart’, composed by DJ Carlos Jean for the campaign ‘Late Madrid’, which helps to apply the proper rhythm of compressions in case of a cardiac arrest (100-120 per minute). Carrera Popular del Corazón www.carrerapopulardelcorazon.com FCC Employees wholeheartedly participated in the Carrera Popular del Corazón among the population, from the youngest to the oldest, and to en- joy a festive and family day in which sport is the protagonist, instilling the importance of acquiring healthy lifestyle habits in order to improve people’s physical condition. The money raised in this race is earmarked for promoting cardio- vascular research and to generate campaigns to teach good healthy habits. Before starting the 4.5 km walk, the Olympic runner and ambassa- dor of the ‘Late Madrid’ campaign, Chema Martínez, yesterday made a symbolic race ‘#in less than 10 minutes’ from Plaza de España to the start of the race where he gave a defibrillator to the SAMUR team Compañeros de la Delegación de Castilla y León de FCC Medio Ambiente.
