AqualiaMACE, a company formed by Aqualia and the Emirate company MACE, which currently manages and operates sanitation services in Al Ain and its area of influence in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, was recent- ly awarded the International Safe- ty Awards for “merit” by the British Safety Council, an organisation with more than 60 years of experience that promotes the correct manage- ment of health and safety at work. The prize was awarded after taking into account the low rate of acci- dents in the project after reaching six million hours without any acci- dents at work. Likewise, the innova- tive campaigns introduced, such as the implementation of the preventi- ve culture project or specific mea- sures to improve road safety, were positively valued. Its performance has been very positively recognised by the client (Abu Dhabi Sewerage Services Company) who, in its last Excellence Award in occupational safety and health for management of Aqualia in Abu Dhabi assessment, rated the health and safety management in the contract as outstanding (9 points out of 10). AqualiaMACE is responsible for the sanitation and purification system in the city of Al Ain, in the eastern part of Abu Dhabi, which supplies and serves more than 650,000 in- habitants. This project was the first contract awarded to a Spanish com- pany in the Emirates and includes the operation and maintenance of a 2,400-kilometre-long wastewater treatment network, 68 wastewater pumping stations and 19 wastewa- ter treatment plants.
