  • FCC Ámbito has been awarded the contract for comprehensive waste management at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, consolidating its position in major infrastructure projects.

  • The service enhances efficiency and sustainability through operational improvements, the gradual renewal of the fleet and a specialised team.

FCC Ámbito, through its Southern Division, has been awarded the contract for the comprehensive waste management of Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, one of Europe’s leading airport facilities. This award guarantees the continuity of the service currently being provided and consolidates a comprehensive management model covering all waste generated at the airport facilities, meeting the highest operational and environmental standards.

With this award, Aena renews its confidence in FCC Ámbito to provide an essential service in a highly complex operational environment, reinforcing its commitment to efficient, safe management that is fully aligned with the airport’s environmental sustainability objectives.

The service is provided continuously, 24 hours a day and 365 days a year, and includes the selective collection, sorting, transport, treatment and documentation management of non-hazardous, hazardous, clinical and other waste streams specific to airport operations, in accordance with current environmental regulations.

The contract includes significant operational and environmental improvements, notably the gradual renewal of part of the fleet of vehicles and equipment, which will be replaced by more sustainable alternatives with a lower environmental impact. This initiative will reduce emissions associated with the service’s operations and improve energy efficiency, contributing directly to the airport’s decarbonisation and circular economy commitments.

A specialist team of around 30 professionals has been mobilised to carry out the contract, together with the company’s own equipment adapted to the demands of the airport environment. With an initial duration of three years, extendable to five, and a contract value of €8.75 million, this award represents a further boost to FCC Ámbito’s position as a leading operator in the comprehensive management of waste at major critical infrastructure sites.

Overall, FCC Ámbito thus reinforces its role as a strategic partner of Aena, contributing technical expertise, process innovation and a firm commitment to sustainability and continuous service improvement, in line with the values of the FCC Group and the environmental objectives of a key infrastructure for mobility and international connectivity.
